Children and families are being prevented from attending Tramore Educate Together National School.
Recently received communications from the Department of Education and Skills states that the school must now adhere strictly to a ½ stream intake of 13 junior infants for the 2018/19 school year.
The school is not alone - five thriving Educate Together national schools with growing waiting lists (Tramore ETNS, New Ross ETNS, Trim ETNS, Tuam ETNS and Castlebar ETNS) are now to be deprived of resources to teach a full stream.
Tramore ETNS opened under a Government scheme to provide more choice for families in a school system dominated by religious-run schools. This Department u-turn contradicts the premise on which the school opened and flies in the face of Government claims that the Irish education system supports ‘parental choice’.
Tramore ETNS has gone from strength to strength over the past number of years. The school community is shocked and upset at now having to turn away large numbers of families who now won’t able to access the equality-based education they had hoped for their children.
Please contact the Minister and Department of Education and ask them to reverse this decision so that families will have access the equality-based education that they want for their children.
